LEADERS are chosen, not born and not made.
They chose themselves. Leaders are leaders by virtue of the choices they have made about themselves, others and life. What they believe in and what they are willing to sacrifice for those beliefs is the core from which they draw energy, strength, integrity and compassion.
Leadership is something you choose to have over yourself - first. When you lead yourself well, others will see or sense that and follow. Leaders, true leaders, are not leaders becasue they have power but rather they give power to others through their leadership.
A shepherd leads sheep. A cowboy drives cattle. Do you understand the difference?
We help leaders by focusing on four values: Integrity/Control; Depth/Command; Intimacy/Compassion and Idealism/Commitment
The power of Leadership does not come from these principles. The power comes from the ownership of these principles. When a Leader fulfills his or her responsibilities and demonstrates that he or she is holding him or her self to these standards, it makes it easy and safe for those who would follow to follow, even when the path they take is arduous and dangerous.
Leaders lead because they choose to. Followers follow because the leader makes it possible
"The final test of leadership is that it leaves behind in others the conviction and the will to carry on.".
MANAGEMENT is different - but not much. It is the art and science of directing effort and resources so that the established objectives of an enterprise may be attained in accordance with accepted standards.
The motivation and responsibilities of the Manager are not a deep as those of a leader. Managers can be leaders but most aren't. Most Managers are less inspirational and autonomizing and more directive because that is the nature of their task.Managers, good Managers, understand the resources and objectives they have to deal with. Many are experts at directing the administrative and technical systems they have to work within. However, many managers miss the mark in dealing effectively with the Human System they have to work within. It is typically a lack of knowledge, understanding and desire rather than some intentional oversight of failure on their part.
Training Managers in Relational Awareness provides then with the opportunity to gain the insight and understanding they must have to effectively direct the Human System they manage. Relational Awareness can enable them to make even better use of the Human Resources they have at hand.
Relational Awareness Training will also provide the insight, understanding and opportunities Managers need in order to decide if they will be Leaders or not.
"Managing is like holding a dove in your hand. Squeeze to hard and you kill it, not hard enough and it flies away." Tommy Lasorda
